TCJA: §199A Specified Service Businesses

1 Self-Study (QAS) CPE

Program Description:

The Tax Cuts Jobs Act brings brand spanking new opportunities and curses. Among the wildest of new rides is the §199A deduction rollercoaster. Some get to take the ride. Others can't buy a ticket. The new Specified Service Trade or Business (SSTB) rules allow some in and leave others crying at the entrance gate. Newly proposed Treasury regs (issued August 8, 2018) cull and sort and leave some grey areas hanging fire. What is your fate?

*  Initial interpretation of SSTB by 08/08/18 proposed regs in living color

*  Who cares about being an SSTB anyway and who can go home and drink a beer

*  What moves, if any, may be made to prevent being tossed over the edge?

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • List nine areas clarified in 8/8/18 Proposed Treasury Regulations
  • Gain additional understanding on who's in and who's out as an SSTB
  • Define “Principal Asset is Reputation or Skill” under the §199A proposed regs
  • Identify whether being an SSTB matters (or not) to tax liability
