Create Your Own Business Year in Review

Create Your Own Business Year in Review

The end-of-year holidays make a wonderful time to gain the genius of hindsight before we enter 2013.  To create your very own business year-in-review, ask yourself these five questions and prepare your answers thoughtfully.

  1. What were your major accomplishments for 2012?
  2. What were you most proud of?
  3. What was your biggest lesson?
  4. What person in your life was most helpful or motivating for you in 2012?
  5. Is there a negative person in your life you need to spend less time with?
  6. How will you celebrate or reward yourself?

As an example, here are my answers:

1. What were your major accomplishments for 2012?

I was thrilled to co-produce and host the First Annual Ultimate Accounting vCon with Michelle Long and our amazing sponsors and participants.   I believe we helped hundreds of accounting professionals learn more about the cloud and how to embrace it in their practices as well as profit from it.

Another accomplishment was holding my very first Accountant’s Accelerator Elite program, a high-level coaching program.  Although we won’t be repeating this program in 2013, I thoroughly enjoyed working with the wonderfully talented entrepreneurs in the group, and I loved watching them bond together as friends, peers, and support for each other.

2. What were you most proud of?

I’m actually most proud of providing health insurance for my employees.  It’s kind of that one step that makes me feel like we’re a big, official company now!

3. What was your biggest lesson?

My biggest lesson this year was personal and was related to my father’s passing.  Great lessons always help me understand more about myself and shape how I want to show up in the world and what I want to be known for.

If I had to select a business lesson (which pales by comparison), I would say that I need to widen my planning horizon to give my team, vendors, and clients more advance notice.

4. What person in your life was most helpful or motivating for you in 2012?

From a business standpoint, I received some great advice during a mastermind in LA as well as on a private call from my business coach this year that really changed my perspective and solidified my direction.

I also loved reading the applications from the Incredible Implementor contest and learning how my clients are implementing the ideas they got from the Accountant’s Accelerator program.

5. Is there a negative person in your life you need to spend less time with?

Yes!  I need to get rid of the negative part of myself and transform into a more positive, yet not Pollyanna, type of person!

6. How will you celebrate or reward yourself?

I’m going to buy some fun items so I can decorate my office and be surrounded by inspiration.
