Optimize ChatGPT for Tax and Accounting Research

Self-Study Course
Recorded on February 21, 2024

Includes Video Recording, Handout, and Exam

1 hour, 1 CPE, 0 IRS CE

Program Description:

ChatGPT has passed both the CPA exam (May 2023) and the Bar exam (March 2023), so you might be wondering if it can help you with tax or accounting research. You might also have heard that ChatGPT can hallucinate, or provide completely false answers. Both are true, so what’s an accountant to think?

In this course, we’ll examine the benefits and pitfalls of using ChatGPT for tax and accounting research, plus what you MUST do if you use it for this purpose. I’ll demo several use cases and share the prompts I’ve written. I’ll also show you tips and tricks on how to significantly increase accuracy and reduce hallucinations with tax and accounting research.

After completing this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Describe how to “feed” ChatGPT the tax laws or accounting publications you want it to analyze
  • Name two things you MUST do if you use ChatGPT for research purposes
  • Learn how to prompt ChatGPT to get the best research answers
  • Understand the pitfalls of using ChatGPT for tax and accounting research

While tax and accounting research is not ChatGPT’s strongest use case, it can still save you hours of time. Find out how in this course.
